Name : Snæbjörn Ragnarsson.
Age : 34.
Birthday : 25.10.78
Domestic situation : In a relationship.
Employment: I work in PIPAR\TBWA advertising agency.
Position in the band : I play the bass, sing, write lyrics and compose music.
You´re in two very different bands, Skálmöld and Ljótu Hálfvitarnir. How does that work?
That works very well. I have no children so I´m more available than the other guys in the bands. So it suits me well to be in two bands. And I really like both bands and can get an outbreak for different musical creation.
What were the main events leading to the bands formation?
Björgvin and I are old friends and have been together in bands on and off since 1991. We knew we were going to start a heavy metal band sometime and talked about it a lot. Then came the right day, I sent the guys an email (I knew them all already) and we met and started.
Where do you get the ideas for your records? Do you compose the stories yourself?
I own the biggest part of the stories and they are basically fabrication. On the other hand I use various sources, e.g. the atmosphere from the sagas and mythology. That is then combined with my interests on this and that, my dad red Lord of the Rings to me when I was a child and I have played a lot of improvisation games, like D&D. This mixes into some kind of soup that is hopefully entertaining.
Do you compose the songs together or does someone do it alone?
I write the lyrics myself but we compose the songs together. Usually we get an idea at home, a riff or songs that are almost ready and show them to each other at practises. There they are made fully-fledged.
Now you have released two records. Do you intend to make more records or have you had enough?
This is not over. We have even started writing a little already but we haven´t laid any plans yet.
You went on a tour two years ago – do you intend to go again?
Yes, hopefully as often as we can.
Is your music suitable for both children and adults?
Good music suits everyone, the question is whether the listener is subjected to it or not. So the answer is : Yes, hopefully.
Something at last?
Yes, don´t dismiss music only because it has a label such as „heavy metal“. Everyone should listen and form their own opinion, good music is good, no matter what it´s called. And thank you.
